To maintain strong relationships between Catholic youth throughout the Hamilton Diocese, Aquinas College takes part in annual sports exchanges with other Catholic colleges.
Last week we set off on the trek through the Waioeka George and on into Gisborne, to visit Campion College. Some nerves at being billeted were quickly overcome by the friendly welcome we received. The sporting rivalry was strong with neither school being prepared to give an inch on the court, turf or playing field.
Over the two days Aquinas had sporting success in boys and girls’ basketball, girls’ volleyball, rugby 10’s and an A and a B netball match. Apart from the volleyball which went to three games, we were comfortably ahead on the score board in the other matches. Campion however had their revenge by winning the mixed hockey and boy’s football.
After a great feed and fond farewells, we headed back to Tauranga, having made both new new friends and sporting rivals. A great time was had by all and we look forward to hosting Campion here at Aquinas next year.
