Bringing Civics to Life

Our Year 7 and 8 GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) students are gaining a firsthand understanding of NZ’s political system as they study civics and the upcoming general election.

Last month, they welcomed Bay of Plenty MP Tom Rutherford and Labour List MP Jan Tinetti, who shared their experiences in Parliament, explained how government works, and spoke about the role of representing local communities.

The learning continues over the coming months, with ACT List MP Cameron Luxton visiting next, followed by return visits from Jan Tinetti and Tom Rutherford in August, and Tauranga MP Sam Uffindell in September.

Hearing from representatives across the political spectrum is helping our students build a deeper understanding of democracy, leadership, and civic participation.
