Auckland Water Polo Attack Too Strong for AC

Our AIMS Reporters were poolside yesterday (Thursday, Sept. 12) to watch the AC water polo team compete against Sacred Heart.

Although the game didn’t go AC’s way, the team bounced back yesterday afternoon to beat Royal Oak and advanced to this morning’s fifth-place playoffs. Here’s the AC press analysis of the Sacred Heart game.

Yelling spectators,  blowing whistles and splashing water were the starting sounds of the Aquinas water polo team’s game against Sacred Heart.

Sacred Heart was strong and fast in the water with a solid defence. The back-and-forth game was quick with loud support from the coach, parents and teammates.

The atmosphere was tense throughout the game, and the opposing team was very competitive. AC couldn’t stop the Sacred Heart attackers and ended up losing 0-8.

Coach Duncan Etherington said, “We had a good goalie, our last games were strong but today we made bad decisions.”

Goalie Levi Dixon (Year 8) was named MVP because he had worked hard and saved some good attempts at goal.

This was the seventh game the team has played this week.

Yesterday, the AC water polo team put up a fight against Sacred Heart’s all-boys team but the strong opponents ended up coming out on top.

Although Sacred Heart won 8-0, the game was much closer. It was intense and super fast to watch. The Sacred Heart defence was very good at blocking the AC attack.

AC Coach Duncan Etherington said the team had played much better in their other games this week.

Team member Irene Seo (Year 8) said the team has played seven games so far. She was tired but said being able to experience AIMS made it worth it. The team is having a lot of fun, she said.

Yesterday’s water polo game was a tough game for our Aquinas team, but the player who had to work the hardest was goalie and MVP Levi Dixon (Year 8).

Sacred Heart, an all-boys team, put Levi under a lot of pressure from their constant attacks. Coach Duncan Etherington said Levi did a great job in the goal.

The final score was 8-0 to Sacred Heart.
