Aquinas swimmer Nathan Holmberg (Year 13) delivered an outstanding performance at the recent 2025 NZ Swimming Championships, earning his place among the country’s fastest swimmers.
Nathan was NZ’s eighth-fastest male in the open men’s 400m IM (4:52.12), ninth in the 1500m freestyle (17:20.28), and 12th in the 400m freestyle (4:16.72). His 1500m time also secured fourth place in the 17-18-year-age group.
He posted personal bests across the board, including breaking the 2-minute barrier in the 200m freestyle — a significant milestone. A highlight of his meet was making the 400m IM final, where he lined up alongside seven of New Zealand’s elite swimmers.
Nathan swims for Liz Van Welie Aquatics, where he trained up to 10 hours per week leading up to nationals. Year 13’s Hunter Sands also competed, finishing a credible 14th in the open men’s 400m IM (5:06.95).
Top swimmers from across NZ attended the Auckland meet to battle for national titles. More than 350 athletes took part.
