Aquinas Girls 1st XI had a great tournament on Tuesday March 9!
In the first game defending champions Tauranga Girls College continued their winning streak with our first loss of the series.
Game 2 was against our Catholic rivals John Paul College. Captain Odette Roberson won the toss electing to bowl resulting in JPC being bowled out for 62 runs.
Odette Roberson and Olivia Collett opened the batting, and along with third batter Annie Nolan reached a convincing winning total of a 63/1 by the 7th over – a resounding victory!
The final game was against Mount Maunganui College who batted first posting a total of 82 runs for 5 wickets in their 16 overs.
Aquinas girls elected to bat all of their players, retiring some to enable all players to contribute.
MMCs opening two bowlers were ruthless in the attack, claiming 3 wickets and restricting Aquinas to 39 runs after 12 overs.
The partnership of Tash Wakelin (recently selected for the ND Spirit squad) and Annie Nolan, required 44 runs from the last 4 overs, creating an exciting nail biting situation with Aquinas needing a four on the last ball to win the game!
Tash faced this last delivery, hitting the ball out to the boundary, securing the victory for Aquinas by one run!
There is a strong team spirit in the team resulting in a very satisfying overall second place in the tournament.
