Aquinas College Cricket Club

Welcome to the Aquinas College Cricket Club.

We aim to provide a fun, fair and safe cricketing environment where everyone develops their game and is keen to come back again next year. We also love to win. At Aquinas College we have quality coaches who are committed to building good individuals and strong teams.

All our coaches are trained and vetted as part of New Zealand Cricket’s programme of ensuring child safety.

Our parent community is an integral part of the junior club too and we rely on the contribution of parents to help us.

Some information about Zane Winslade: MA Sport Psychology, Grad. Dip. Teach, B.SPLS

‘I am a mental performance coach who specialises in helping athletes overcome obstacles and create plans so they can go forward and reach their potential and find that flow more often in sport.

My experience is enriched through a lifelong involvement in sport through coaching and teaching. Now, I work with a variety of athletes and teams in the Bay of Plenty, supporting them to develop the mental skills needed to help them excel in their Sport.

My specialities lie in preparing athletes for consistent performance under pressure, developing a flexible and optimal performance mindset for individuals and teams as well as helping athletes prepare with realistic plans dedicated to helping them achieve their dreams. ‘

Aquinas College appoints professional coach
The Aquinas Cricket Club have taken a big step forward this year and secured the coaching and playing services of an overseas coach.

He will coach all levels from Year 7 to Y13 and coach teams for their midweek interschool games. He will also play for the First X1 in senior reserve grade cricket on Saturdays.

Our player/coach is Tom Piddington, who is a 25 year old English player who plays for the Hadleigh Cricket Club in Suffolk.
Tom is a bowling all rounder who bowls right arm medium fast and bats in the top order anywhere from 1 to 6. He has represented Suffolk at development squad level.
He has an ECB Level 2 coaching qualification and has worked with both adults and children on an individual basis and has delivered holiday coaching programmes and summer camps for school groups.
He has previously filled a player/coach role in Melbourne and is keen to develop his game further as both a player and coach by taking up another off season role.

Tom arrives in NZ on 26th September and will stay until the end of March. He will stay with 4 Aquinas cricketing families over this period, and will accompany the First X1 on the Melbourne trip in January.

2017 Winter Training
Training for the start of the 2017/18 season is well underway. Currently, we have 30 kids involved on our Monday sessions. The boys have had excellent coaching with Dave Johnston (Kane Williamson’s coach), Brett Williamson (Kane’s Dad) and Gareth Hopkins (ex Black Cap and current coach of ND senior men’s T20 team) all offering their expertise.

The sessions provide our players with a technical cricket skills based programme aimed to provide them with a range of skills before the season starts proper.

For many years we have been trying to best prepare our kids for the rigours of cricket, where their performance and fun in the game is optimized, while their risk of injury is minimized.

To do this we believe that our students need to training correctly, be informed about the latest developments in strength/conditioning and ensure that they have information around appropriate nutrition.
