As we look towards Mission Sunday, we reflect on our own context and our Year 13 Mission and Ministry trip to Rarotonga in July, 2026. We, too, are being called to “leave our nets” and to bear witness to God’s love and share in His mission. The Rarotonga trip is a commitment to uniting with another community in prayer, solidarity and sharing our faith with others.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once, they left their nets and followed him. Matt 4:19-20
AC students are repurposing their personal “nets”, their gifts, skills and talents to become servant leaders equipped for mission. During their week in Rarotonga, our students will share their faith, offering their hands for service, and connecting with:
-
St. Joseph’s Cathedral and Parish – participation in the Mass and maintenance work
-
Serving alongside the Cluny Sisters
-
Engaging in a cultural exchange and peer-to-peer ministry activities focused on the sharing of faith. Catholic schools involved are: Nukutere College, St Joseph’s Primary School and ECE.
-
Youth ministry engagement
The Cluny Sisters and the staff of St Joseph’s in Rarotonga joined us last Monday in a planning meeting for the mission trip. In the weeks to come, you’ll hear from Aquinas students and why they are personally responding to the call to mission. Stay tuned…
