We have a dedicated group of young indoor rock climbers at Aquinas College. We meet at Rocktopia every Thursday from 4:30 until 6pm and have lots of fun testing out our skills and delighting in progress! Most of the students are absolute beginners but support each other and enjoy the fun family atmosphere that Kerry Crawford and the rest of the crew provide. New-comers are always welcome, and should catch up with Ms de Lautour at school if they’d like to join us. ?
On Thursday 30th March we had many having a go at the Rocktopia School Competition. This was a fun and relaxed affair with everybody just doing their own thing and doing what they could – although some were more competitive than others – there was absolutely no pressure with all students going for personal bests. There were six climbs, each getting harder from numbers 1 to 6. Each climb had points assigned to certain holds, with the number of points increasing the higher a climber reached. Points are then added up and the school with the highest cumulative total will win. We haven’t heard the results yet, but on the night our competitors were:
Antony Death also competed in the Regional Champs recently and WON even though he has only just taken up this sport! He will compete in the Nationals shortly.
