On Friday 31 May the Aquinas College mixed 1st XI had their annual fixture against the Tauranga Police Football Team.
The foul weather in the morning had the older generation talking about postponement, however with some gentle encouragement it was decided the match would go on and the boys in blue arrived at Aquinas to face off against their younger counterparts.
The skies cleared and resulted in a dry match on a damp pitch. A large group of AC students gathered on the sidelines to see the match unfold as the warm up’s were taking place.
There was a brilliant show of skills from the younger legs, and a lesson of endurance from the older players. Unfortunately for Aquinas College, we went down 4 – 5 to the Police, after some great goals by both teams. As the final whistle blew, the heavens opened and boy did it rain.
Thank you to Mohdeep Sodhi who hung up his boots and grabbed a whistle to ref for us, also to Jake Bell and Reuben Syme who watched our lines, and Chris Phayer for coaching the team. Thank you also to the Police for the great game and competition.
