Our Aquinas Boys’ 1st XI delivered an impressive campaign at the Northern Districts 1st XI Cricket Cup Qualifying Tournament (formerly the Gillette Cup), finishing third overall after five competitive matches.
Despite being one of the younger teams, the boys competed strongly throughout, with their only losses coming against tournament heavyweights Rotorua Boys’ High School and Mount Maunganui College. Just the top two sides progress to represent Northern Districts in the finals.
Our Year 13 leaders stepped up when it mattered most, with Eli Banbury, Levi O’Hara, Will Syme, and Jonothan Coster consistently delivering key performances. Rhys and Ashton Matuku also brought great energy and commitment in their final appearances for Aquinas.
The tournament highlighted an exciting future for AC cricket, with Ben Talbot, Cormac Gardiner, Ollie Laurie, and Matt Rogers showing plenty of promise, while Ryan Kane, Rohan Moby, and Lachlan Talbot impressed in the field.
Just as impressive as the cricket was the team culture, with senior players supporting younger teammates and creating a positive, hard-working environment.
A big thank you to our cricketing whānau for their ongoing support, especially Emma Talbot for her incredible organisation and enthusiasm, and Bernie Gardiner for his help on match days.
With strong leadership, a talented young core, and great support around the team, the future of Aquinas College Cricket is looking very bright.
