Aquinas runners have struck gold in a cross-country showdown against the nation’s fastest athletes. The AC team returned home with six medals from the recent NZ Cross Country and Relay Championships in Napier.
In the individual races, Head Boy Hamish Murray finished second in the men’s U18 6km in a time of 20:21 Younger brothers Vaughan (Yr 10) placed fourth in the U16 boys 4km (14:01.60) and Lachlan eighth in the same race (14:18.20). Holly Fausset (Yr 12) finished seventh in the women’s U18 5km (19:49.50).
In the team cross-country event, Lachlan won gold with the boys’ U16 Waikato BOP team as did Hamish in the Waikato BOP men’s U18 team.
Our AC runners then competed in the team relay event, this time running for Athletics Tauranga. Holly won gold with her U18 4×2 km team, Hamish silver in the U20, and Lachlan bronze in the U16 event. Even more impressively, Holly’s relay team was the third overall team home in a field of Open and U20-grade runners.
The event was held at Mission Estate. Congratulations all, stellar talent!
