It was a brilliant day had by all down at the Tauranga Domain on Friday 22 February for the Annual Aquinas Athletics Championships.
With Cyclone Oma threatening to appear, the call was made to run Athletics on the Thursday and what a call it was. The weather provided perfect conditions for our Sports Day with just a spot of rain at midday. Just after we had finished packing up, the heavens opened and boy did it rain!
The students should be congratulated on their AC and team spirit on the day. It was wonderful to see the students cheering on their peers at the field events and alongside the track.
Several of our students achieved some fantastic results and 17 School Records were broken over the course of the day! A very special congratulations must go to Holly Fausett who now holds records in the Year 7 Girls 100m, 300m and Long Jump, Emma Rogers in Year 7 Girls 3000m, Jasmine Watene who broke the record for the U14 Girls High Jump and Hannah McGregor who now holds the record for the U16 Girls Triple Jump.
The Boys also had a champion day with the following results; Oliver Grosso is now the holder of the Year 7 Boys 300m and Long Jump records, Reef Joseph in Year 7 Boys 3000m, Harrison McGregor in both U14 Shot Put and Discus, Trevel Gardiner-Hano in the U16 Shot Put, Jaspar Hawkes in the U16 Triple Jump, Connor Farrell in the Senior Boys 1500m and finally Sam O’Connor in the Senior Boys Discus Throw and Shot Put events.
