Our Aquinas 2024 AIMS Games athletes got off to a fantastic start this weekend, already claiming two medals! Here are all the details…
Cross Country:
Sophie Reid finished second out of 146 runners in the Year 7 girls 3km race! In second for much of the race, she clinched silver in a blistering 11:57.10 following an impressive 50-metre sprint battle against the third-placed runner.
Other notable performances include Jono Dalton’s 26th placing out of 140 Year 7 boys, followed closely by Robert Steer in 29th position. Hailey Mennie was 43rd out of 133 Year 8 runners. The Aquinas team had a great day out with an impressive effort across individual and relay events, including a fifth placing in the 12km team relay.
Gymnastics:
Yr 8’s Tilly Martin placed third overall in the Artistic Open (Step 7) competition today following her performances on beam, floor, bar and vault. She was third-equal for her bar routine. Congratulations also to Briar O’Connor who finished ninth overall in the Year 8 (Step 4) contest.
Futsal:
The boys have already played six games, kick-starting with an excellent 7-1 win against Mokoia Intermediate on Saturday. They’ve faced some skilled opponents since but are putting in the mahi and being great sporting ambassadors for our school!
Netball:
The girls started their AIMS tournament today with a competitive 18-11 loss against Auckland Normal Intermediate. They return to the court for two games tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 9).
