Chess Results

The annual school chess tournament was well supported, with around 70 students competing during lunchtimes in Term Two.

Some games were short and others were tense and exciting, taking several sessions to reach a conclusion.

It was great to see students come and have a go, gaining points for their house.

Congratulations to Elise Oxenham who came second in the Secondary section and Ella Hill who came third in the Intermediate section in the Bay of Plenty Girls’ Chess Tournament.  Both girls were awarded their certificate and medal during a recent school assembly.

The results for 2018 are:

CHAMPIONS                                                       RUNNERS-UP

Year 7: Ella Hill                                                    Kurt Hill

Year 8: Jacob Pinto                                              Braden Aleksich

Year 9: Samuel Rush                                            Jordan Smith

Year 10: Michael Tran                                           Torben Oxenham

Year 11: Nicolai Fourie                                          Felix Lowe

Year 12: Thomas Kengmana                               Alex Fourie

Year 13: Leon Castle                                            Jun Lee

SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS

Junior Chess Champion: Jacob Pinto

Intermediate Chess Champion: Michael Tran

Senior Chess Champion: Leon Castle

SCHOOL CHESS CHAMPION: Jacob Pinto

This event was wonderfully supported by students and, as a result, we have started having Chess Club after school once a week.  The prizes of certificates, medals, cups and chocolate were very popular, and we are all looking forward to next year’s tournament, where the current champions can be challenged.
