60 students wowed an audience of parents, friends and supporters at last week’s Performing Arts Night. Held at Otumoetai Baptist Church, the event showcased the talents of the school choir Voci Celesti, the Concert Band, the Jazz Band and senior drama classes. The event was coordinated by Mrs Cooney, the Head of Music, who also directs and accompanies the choir and conducts the two bands. Mrs Livingstone managed the door entries, Mrs Fitzpatrick conducted the choir and Mrs Marriner organised the drama item.
In his welcome, Mr Scott made special mention of the Itinerant Music Teachers who tutor students across the Bay of Plenty; Mrs Christine Martin, Mr Rima Barlow, Mr Rob Wilson, Mrs Lucy Gardiner and Mrs Kimberly Jones. These teachers joined with members of the school bands to perform a range of pieces including ‘Pirates of the Caribbean; Dead Man’s Chest’ by Hans Zimmer, arranged by Michael Brown, ‘Autumn Leaves’ by Joseph Kosma and Johnny Mercer and ‘Summertime’ by Gershwin.
Solo vocal performances from Duncan Hendry (Year 12) and Katy Scott (Year 11), were followed by Millie Elliott and Michael Graham singing a duet from the school’s production of Bugsy Malone; ‘I’m Feeling Fine’.
The audience was kept entertained by the night’s MC’s Millie Burton and Jake Hynds.
