From Aquinas to NZ Tall Ferns Basketball

What an incredible moment for our Aquinas whānau. We’re so proud to share that cousins Emma Rogers (Class of 2025) and Briarley Rogers (Class of 2018) have been selected for the New Zealand Tall Ferns to compete in the upcoming FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifiers in San Juan.

It’s the first Tall Ferns selection for both players — and what a stage to debut on.

Emma and Briarley were standout performers in last season’s Rapid League All-Star 5, with Emma also claiming MVP, plus Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa’s Most Improved and Youth Player of the Year honours. Reflecting on her selection, Emma shared:

“Everybody says it’s a dream to be a Tall Fern when you grow up, and I feel like I’m still growing up. So I think it’s really special to do it at this age, and do it at a World Cup Qualifying Tournament.”

The Tall Ferns are in Melbourne for a training camp before heading to Puerto Rico, where they’ll open their campaign against the European powerhouse Spain on March 12.

Emma and Briarley — your Aquinas whānau could not be prouder. Thank you for inspiring our current students and showing what’s possible with hard work, faith, and commitment.

We’ll be cheering loudly from home. 💙💛 Massive AC Pride!
