What an incredible moment for our Aquinas whÄnau. Weâre so proud to share that cousins Emma Rogers (Class of 2025) and Briarley Rogers (Class of 2018) have been selected for the New Zealand Tall Ferns to compete in the upcoming FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifiers in San Juan.
Itâs the first Tall Ferns selection for both players â and what a stage to debut on.
Emma and Briarley were standout performers in last seasonâs Rapid League All-Star 5, with Emma also claiming MVP, plus Tauihi Basketball Aotearoaâs Most Improved and Youth Player of the Year honours. Reflecting on her selection, Emma shared:
âEverybody says itâs a dream to be a Tall Fern when you grow up, and I feel like Iâm still growing up. So I think itâs really special to do it at this age, and do it at a World Cup Qualifying Tournament.â
The Tall Ferns are in Melbourne for a training camp before heading to Puerto Rico, where theyâll open their campaign against the European powerhouse Spain on March 12.
Emma and Briarley â your Aquinas whÄnau could not be prouder. Thank you for inspiring our current students and showing whatâs possible with hard work, faith, and commitment.
Weâll be cheering loudly from home. đđ Massive AC Pride!
