Maths Week

Students enjoyed participating in a variety of activities including daily riddles, treasure hunts and mathsmind competitions during Math Week earlier this term.  Many students also took part in the Australian Maths Competition and the Otago Junior Maths Competition. Congratulations to the following students who gained Distinction (top 20%) and High Distinction (top 3% of participants) in the Australian Mathematics Competition:

Lachlan Dillon and Athanasia Hay (Distinction).
Torban Oxenham (High Distinction), Elise Oxenham (High Distinction and top in school).
There was also outstanding results in the Otago Junior Maths Competition:

Lachlan Dillon and Thomas Wilkinson (Merit).
Xavier Barry, Michael Graham and Elise Oxenham (Top 200).
Schools from across the Bay of Plenty competed at this annual Mathsmind event, including four noble teams from Aquinas College.

Students who are planning to sit scholarship Maths papers this year participated in workshops hosted by the Waikato University Maths and Statistics Faculty.
