About the Sport: Athletics is organised and run as a School-wide event early at the start of Term 1. All students are expected to compete for their Houses in as many track and field events as they are capable of. The School Athletics Day is held at the Tauranga Domain using the facilities of the Tauranga Athletics Club.
The first 3 placegetters in each event are then selected to represent Aquinas College at the BOP Secondary Schools Athletics Championships held at the Tauranga Domain. The first 3 placegetters in each event are then selected to compete at the Waikato Athletics Championships in Hamilton.
Based on performance at school and regional events, students can then choose to compete at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships at the end of Term 1, and the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships held in December.
Practice/ Training: Training and practice for Athletics is primarily undertaken during PE lessons at school. Athletes wanting to compete at a high level are encouraged to join local Athletics clubs
